We went golfing at Kinkora again this morning, though a little later than we normally do and the heat got to some of the weaker (or more foolish, as they weren’t wearing a hat) of us. My distance game was great, especially when using my driver. Hole 5 is 276 yards and I creamed the ball with my 1 Wood (which isn’t made of wood, strangely enough) and it ended up only about 30 yards from the flag. That’s a 240 yard drive. On a few other holes I was easily hitting 180-200 yards with a nice straight drive with the same club.
My real weakness is that my chip shots are awful. My practise swings feel right and then when I take the actual swing I almost always end up not going down far enough and hitting the ball with the bottom of the club rather than the face, so the ball goes straight along the ground and much too far.
My putting was quite bad today as well. I had a chance at a birdie on three holes today, with moderately difficult puts and not one of them was anywhere near going in.
But I’m getting better and more confident, and I can identify my weaknesses so I can take time to work on them. Time to hit the driving range and practise chipping!
Oh, and for the record I shot an 85 — that’s four strokes better than the last time we played.
