Same shorts! 78.5 lbs difference! One year timeframe and two separate Medifast runs (3 months long and then 4 months this year).
Last year at this time (end of June, actually) I was 248.5 lbs. This morning I weighed in at 170.0 lbs exactly. I graduated high school (20 years ago!) at 210 lbs. I haven’t weighed this little since probably Grade 8.
Here are some more shots… FOR THE LADIES.

Here’s a (large) animation blending from start to finish (just the two shots, no actual in-between morphing):

I didn’t need to see that.
gg man, now you just need to start looking happier on your webcam. For somebody who just removed the equivalent of a small human from thier body, you don’t smile enough.
You look great. Did you do the 5/1 plan on Medifast where you eat one meal a day with your shakes? Or did you just do liquids only?
I did 5+1, yes. I’m a firm believer that nobody should do the 5+0 plan unless recommended by their doctor as the right choice. It’s just way too little calories and you’ll probably just bypass ketosis and hit starvation mode.
Hey you’re wearing a belt in the before picture. MISREPRESENTATION!
About how much weight did you lose in a month? I started the progam at the end of May. I’ve lost 14 pounds already. Ryan Adams told me about your site. Keep up the good work. Now the hard part is ahead of you, keeping it off.
When I was above 200 lbs I was losing about half a pound a day, but as my weight got lower, so too did my average daily weight loss. I had it graphed out but had a huge hard drive crash and lost the first several months of this diet, but the last month’s data showed an average loss of only .27 lbs/day.
Congrats on the weight loss Joe. Thought it was a picture of Pringle from high school at first. Geezus you are like 35lbs lighter then me now.
Once again congrats!!!!!!!!I just looked at the final picture, for some reason I’ve read the testimonials and seen the pictures on the Medifast site. But talking to a real person who isnt officially endorsing the company seems to make a great difference. Thanks for the inspiration.
Hi. I found you on a random Google search. First of great work. Second a question I
hope you can help me with. I’m active…excercise heavy 3-4 times a week. Not only do I
like to b/c it keeps me from going nuts w/ stress but it help keep my back loose from
a previous injury. Bottom line….I don’t want to stop and as I understand, it’s not
recommended on MediFast. I am interested in your thoughts on this.
Thanks!
I really can’t say if you should exercise heavily that often. I didn’t give up my weekly road hockey games (2+ hours of intense exercising every Wednesday) but it was difficult. I kept a bottle of gatorade & water around for when I felt I ran out of energy, and tried to take it a bit easier.
If you want to continue exercising heavily 3-4 times a week I think your best bet is to contact Medifast and ask them about it, and/or see what your doctor thinks first. Exercising heavily that often means you burn much more calories. On a VLCD burning too many calories can push you into starvation mode and the diet won’t work at all. n short: Be very careful.
Wow, This is encouraging. I have my 20 year reunion in 7 weeks. Since I was voted “best body” in high school,it would be pretty awful to show up overweight! I hope it’s possible to lose the 30+lbs I have gained after the birth of my daughters. Ehhh……..
Wow, you look great. Seeing your pictures and reading your story
has caused me to make the decision. I’m doing it too.
I was wondering if you have completely gone off of the medifast now or are you still using the products? My concern is about when you start eating all “real” food again– Any feedback on how you did the transition (if you did at all) would be great! Thanks….you look awesome!
I’m completely off Medifast. I did a good transition this time but still gained ten pounds again, but it’s been a full two months and I’ve held myself at 180 by simply eating right and getting some exercise. I did Body For Life several years ago and that really helped me clean up my eating habits. I didn’t lose the weight I wanted on it, but it made me wise up enough so I can easily maintain my weight.
UNBELIEVABLE. I am starting Medifast tomorrow. HOT!!
Wow, that’s incredible. Contratulations!

I love that you took the same type of picture even wearing the same shorts. It helps so much to see. the official reviews always have a bad angle awful “before” picture, then this wonderful glamor shot “after” picture.
You look great, thanks for doing this page it was so much more encouraging than the official type sites.
I just still don’t know if I can get past the whole not eating real foods thing, and what if I invest all that money in the program and can’t do it…
such a delima… I may just try after seeing your site…
You do eat real foods, just once per day. The “lean and green” meal is delicious! My typical meal was a grilled chicken breast and either a can of green beans or some steamed or boiled broccoli. With some low-fat margarine and some spices, it’s really, really tasty!
As for the same shorts — I held on to those specifically for that effect. I strongly suggest anyone doing this does a reveals-all “before” photo and remember where they stood, where the camera was, and what they were wearing. That way when you do your “after” photo you can really compare them.
Have you been able to keep the weight off? When you were on Medifast did you eat all of the foods, shakes and bars or shakes only?
I ate all kinds of Medifast food, shakes, bars, soups, even the puddings, as well as the “lean and green” meal once per day.
I’m terrible at the transition period and both times I gained ten pounds back pretty much right away, but then kept that off for a long time. Winters are bad for me with me getting out less, exerising less and eating a bit worse and I gain a bit of weight over the winter. It typically goes away again ad I pick back up my road hockey, but that hasn’t happened this year so I’m looking around for some other exercise that I’d actually enjoy.
WOW. Awesome story. I can’t believe how hot you are now. Keep it up!!
Congratulations on the weight loss… your blog was definitely a key factor in me ordering Medifast. How soon after you placed your order did you receive it? I’m anxious to get the ball rolling!
Not very long at all, especially considering I’m in Canada. Maybe a week and a half?
Great pics!! I started 2 days ago….ready for the journey. =)
I was researching different diet plans on the internet and came across your blog. You have given me the inspiration I needed to stick with my Medifast diet. You look like a completely different person!
Thank you
How did you keep yourself psyched? I start every other day. Also did you notice any mood swings. I teach. I’m afraid to make the commitment for fear, the tiger will roar.
Incredible! I just started and am feeling great the first week. And your pictures are amazing… Now a hunk, you even grew a happy trail!
You look like a totally different person… in the first pic you look a bit like a bouncer and in the second you look like someone you could take home to mother.
Hey Puck!! I am very happy that I found your blog site!!! It has really helped me with my main concern which is the question of “after the transition how much weight is gained back?” And to be keeping people up to date after all these years… KUDOS!! Anyway. I am 21 5′6″ and weighing a whopping 225 as of yesterday. BLAH compared to my 155 when I was 16-17. I am absolutely ashamed of what I look at in the mirror. I never was never really bothered by my weight until recently when I see all these cute clothes that I cant fit into!! (the mall is anti think girl) A size 16 in womens is getting snug…
Anyway. I would love to get down to 170 even more so 150. I am just worried about gaining it back but you have really helped with my confidence that I can keep it off. I decided it was time to do something because the diets I do I just hit a platue!
I do have ONE question though… ***The taste… How awful is it…?*** I plan on buying this stuff within the next couple of days but I see you respond pretty quickly. I know this stuff isn’t gonna taste like steak ha ha but how bad is it really? I see you tips on adding more flavors to the oatmeal’s and soups n such but the shakes is what mostly scares me. Do they taste like a giant vitamin?? Thanks so much in advance for your help. My email is ASIRAK87@aol.com but I am going to try to check back here for your response. Thanks KARISA!!
The taste really varies. I liked a lot of it, and other stuff I’d add zero-calorie “flavour” to it. I loved adding some cinnamon to my vanilla shakes, and some garlic pepper to my “Cream of Chicken Soup”.
Make sure you get a varied menu — you can get pretty sick of anything if you eat it often enough.
Hi Puck, I’ve been reading your blog and thought it was really inspiring for a lot of people. You should contact medifast and become a spokesperson for them.
It’s very nice of you to take the time to answer everyones inquiries here.
Take care and have a Happy New Year!
Hi Puck,
Been reading your blog and grateful you have kept it up for 2 years. Started this diet a week ago. Love the idea of being able to eat eggs, but they are pretty bland. Got any suggestions? Maybe I just need to buy some fresh herbs.
Thanks for any help you can give.
There’s a lot you can do with eggs. I’m a big fan of savory tastes in my eggs, and I’ll often put in garlic pepper, oregano and/or sage in mine, though often just some salt and pepper is enough.
Hey Puck!It has been two months since my last message. Just wanted to update myself. I started on new years and have lost over 20lbs. Your story and feedback to everyone was a good source of inspiration for myself and I just wanted to let you know how I was coming along!
Have a happy Valentines day!!
That’s great to hear Karisa, congratulations!
Hi- Just getting ready to start the program- I have 60lbs to loose from 4 miscarriages that have happened one right after the other over the past 2 years. I have been told I cannot have kids now so I am just going to try and get healthy again. Did you end up with allot of loose skin at first? Thats the main thing I worry about if you loose weight as quickly as the plan claims you do. Congrats on meeting your goal- wish me luck with mine:)
Katie: I get a lot of people asking about loose skin, and my answer is no, not at all. From what little research I’ve done you have to have been *really* overweight and also have a reason for your skin to be less elastic to have that problem. Even then it will eventually go away. The surgery you hear about is just to get it to go away faster.
Good luck with your Medifasting! Don’t worry about the skin thing, just concentrate on your success!
Puck ~
I was contemplating which system I would use in order to lose the excess weight I’ve been carrying for about the last 12 years, and your websites came up on Google. A female friend of mine lost 200+ pounds on Medifast, and so I was specifically looking for more success stories; something that would “speak” to me.
I can tell you that your story did. I’ve made my decision and have purchased my first variety pack. At 6′ 290 pounds, I’ve got a long way to go, but holy crap man, you’ve got me pumped to lose it now! After having seen your transformation picks, and having read your blogs, i believe, now, that I can do it, too.
Anyway, kudos on your success, and I’ll keep you up to date on my loss.
And thanks for the inspiration!
Be well,
David
This is awsome. I just started the program, myself. And this totally insprires me!!!!
Just started Medifast on Jan 24. I came across this site the same day. Puck, you are one heck of a motivation!
I’m not starting at a really large state (188 lbs) but want to get to the mid 150s, so I’m thinking 3 months should do it. So far the food is okay, and like Puck says, spice it up with some harmless spices (I toss a load of cayenne in my eggs, or a few drops of chinese chili sauce. Will try the cinnamon in the shake this afternoon.
I’m not weighing myself daily but after only a week I can feel my jeans loosening up a little. My goal is to go from size 32 to size 30. As for mood, for the first 2 days I felt down but on day 3 I woke up, felt great, and had a bounce in my step! Been that way each day since.
People, as for cost, it’s really not that bad. This will be $300 (USD) a month plus about 50 for lean and greens. In a typical month I’d spend a good 250 on food anyway, so for 100 a month for 3 months I get the weight off. That’s a pretty good deal, and it is easy if you stick to it. Cant beat that. Will post an update when done.
I am considering MediFast to lose about 150 pounds. I want to start now and not waste time, but we are headed into the holidays and although I don’t want to use that as an excuse to overindulge and not “diet”, let’s be realistic here. My question is: would this plan be good to start right now? I don’t know how I could do it during the holidays to be quite honest!! What is your recommendation? Thanks!
I did it through the Christmas Holidays. It just involved telling everyone that I was doing it and sticking to it.
Try to use this as a way to teach yourself that food isn’t a reward or purely for enjoyment. That’s the biggest hurdle I’ve had myself — I *love* eating.
Everyone’s different, and maybe you can’t stick to it. But you’ve got to start some time and with 150 lbs to lose you’re going to be doing this through SOME holidays. Why not make it the ones sooner rather than later?
Have really enjoyed reading the comments, and love that you respond even though the blog is ‘complete’ – so to speak. Thank You.
Reading about the loose skin has helped ease a concern of mine, thank you for that insight, too. As well as not doing heavy exercise… that has been extremely helpful.
First Things First… lose the weight that stops me from being more active, then slowly start being active as I get closer to my goal weight.
I will be starting on January 4th, 2011. I’ve not tried the food yet, but have been reading blogs of those on Medifast, and am putting together a ‘tip sheet’ and while would have loved to have started before the holidays, I decided to just not gain any weight during this time, and be sensible.
I’ll actually be going to the centers once every other week (driving 2+ hours one way every week isn’t realistic right now) and meeting with the counselors etc… which is an additional $8 to the cost of the food.
I have 150+ lbs to lose, and I’m going to commit to 3 months and see how the progress goes. I anticipate progress to go very well, based on things I’ve read so far! Which will keep me on the program until transition!!
Thank you again for keeping up with your comments.
I have done medifast & lost 70 lbs on it.. Love hearing other’s success stories!!
