Guitar Hero II Downloadable Content Outrage

Much like Tycho, I’m baffled (and angry) at the pricing for the XBox 360′s downloadable content for the newly released Guitar Hero II.  Getting GH2 for the 360 has been my plan since I heard it was announced — I bought a PS2 simply to play GH1.  The plan was to sell the PS2 once the 360 version was available because of the sweet, sweet extra downloadable songs.

Now that they’ve released the first three song packs at $6.25 for three songs I’m wondering if I shouldn’t just sell the 360 version instead and keep the PS2.  That pricing is an outrage.  Tycho, and this 1Up article, say it much better than I could, but I’ve gotta vent here:  Screw you Activision.

  1. Honestly… it’s just a game. Who gives a shit what it costs, when no one’s forcing you to buy? This whole argument about “value” is lame. Two bucks, six bucks, so what? You do, in fact, get three songs in the pack for your money. So what if you don’t love every one? You didn’t get a choice with the original game’s roster either.
I say pick up a better hobby! Video games rot your brain. :P

  2. Three songs for $6.25, only used to play a game, and not performed by the original artists.

While over on iTunes I can buy a single song from the original artist for $1 and play it on my iPod and burn it to CD.

“Who cares what it costs, when no one’s forcing you to buy?”? How would you feel if the only quilting material you could buy (because there’s a monopoly on the product, for some for-sake-of-argument reason) was costing you way too much? Would you just throw up your hands and pick a new hobby, or would you rant about it?

    Yeah, that’s what I thought.

  3. But quilting is a cool hobby, whereas video games are *lame*! :)

Why doesn’t guitar hero have the real songs, instead of those covers? The real song would be better. And totally worth buying.

I guess I just see games as such a luxury they’re not worth getting upset over. If the price of staple foods went up, that’s worth fussing over. Game expansions just don’t matter.

Says the person who regularly posts online about stupid things that bug her. Oh what the hell, I think the guitar hero prices are too high also. :)

  4. In my humble opinion, video games are slowly becoming a victim of their own success. Gone are the days of interesting and new ideas and instead we get re-treads with faulty ads on the back of the box.

As for sports games, we simply get roster updates and the price is the same.

GH1 was a good thing. Why do they always have to fuck up a good thing those greedy bastards?
